Child and Adolescent Therapy

Our Child and Adolescent therapists have a warm, compassionate, accepting approach in order to help your child move forward. We work with children and young people who have difficulties with their emotional or behavioural wellbeing and help them manage their thoughts feelings in order to cope better in their everyday life.

When we first meet you, we will spend time getting to know you and hearing about the difficulties you are facing. We can then agree on what will best suit your Childs’ need. This may mean being seen for a few sessions only, or a longer time; sometimes we might suggest Family Therapy where we think it would help you in the recovery process.

Models of Therapy

Our child and adolescent psychotherapists are highly qualified and have experience of working with a broad range of difficulties.

We offer a range of models of therapy to best suit your child. CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy will focus on what is going on in the life of your child your life right now. Psychodynamic therapy, including play therapy techniques will look at past experiences to explore how past experiences might impact on life now. As a result, this can help change the way your child thinks and feels and consequently change any unhelpful behaviours in the future.

Adolescent Therapy

You may be experiencing difficulties including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bullying (even cyber bullying)
  • Exam Pressure
  • Gender Identity Issues
  • OCD
  • Relationship Problems
  • Self Harm and Suicidal Thoughts
  • Sexual Difficulties
  • Stress

Our psychotherapists will help you to feel able to explore your difficulties in a safe, confidential environment.

The Challenge of Adolescent Years

This period of life sees teenagers experimenting with new experiences and developing independence from their parents. They are significantly less reliant on other people to meet their basic survival needs, and there are significant changes in what good quality care for them looks like during this time.

The onset of most mental health problems is in adolescence, but for many young people there will have been some emerging difficulties earlier on. Therefore, if attachment difficulties were evident in childhood, and in the absence of successful intervention, these adolescents may continue to have problems with relationships, potentially contributing to the development of other mental health and social problems.

Child Therapy

Children may be experiencing difficulties for a number of reasons.

  • Anxiety or depression
  • Abuse
  • Bullying
  • Early developmental trauma
  • Problems at school affecting self esteem
  • Problematic relationship with one or both parents. Perhaps the parents are separating and the child cannot see their parent as much as they would like
  • Perhaps there is a stepparent that it’s hard to get on with.

What will it cost?

At our first meeting we will work with you as their parents to agree the best way of treating your child. We will agree a treatment plan and provide weekly updates of how the treatment is going.

Assessments: £75-£85 (Therapist dependant)

Psychotherapy: from £75-£85 (depending on complexity) per 50 minutes

Family Therapy Sessions: £130 for 75 minutes

It is usual for the full fee to be charged for missed sessions.

We offer low cost psychotherapy with trainee psychotherapists who are in the final stages of their long training. This is an excellent way to access psychotherapy as their work is closely scrutinised by a supervisor and so you will have two minds thinking about how to best help you. The trainees are registered with a professional body and hold the appropriate insurance.
